TRAPHX SITE RULES

• No fireworks

• While driving on the site, please keep speed below 5mph to keep dust down. Please be considerate!

• ATVs, UTVs, and all rovers, autonomous or otherwise, must stay on trails. Leave the trail only on foot, as tire tracks persist for years.

• Please do not make any additional fire rings. Elevated gas firepits are allowed. Use of main fire ring with board approval only.

• Please pick up all launch related trash, such as used ignitors and plastic caps. Picking up these items for your fellow rocketeers who launched previously will curry favor in the eyes the the rocket gods. A trashcan is available at the LCO table.

• We launch under the Tripoli Safety Code

• All persons intending to fly high power must be a club member on good standing, and possess the appropriate certification level from either Tripoli or NAR.

• Persons intending to certify should send an email to james@iknowsystems.com or kninja250r@yahoo.com The certification form can be found on the Tripoli certification pages or here on this website. We would ask that your certification rocket is properly simmed and ideal deployment delay known. This is a Tripoli club, those wishing to certify with NAR should make prior arrangements with those who do that sort of thing.

• All cows are assumed spherical, especially while considering aspherical dynamics in spherical coordinates.

Flyers will fill out a flight card for all flights, regardless of motor size. After being initialed by the Range Safety Officer, The card will be put in the queue for the Launch Control Officer to announce the launch over the PA system. Blank flight cards will be available at the launch, or you may print them ahead of time by downloading them from the documents page on this website.

TRAPHX Volunteer Positions Responsibilities

Launch Safety Officer (LCO)

LCO will become familiar with the Tele Metrum Launch Control System. All flyers after RSO Rocket approval will place

their rocket on the pad. Follow Launch control procedure when connecting ignitor. If not familiar, have the ROO instruct

them on proper launch prep.

LCO responsibilities

1. The LCO shall not launch a rocket that has not been clearly announced

2. The announcement shall include a countdown that lasts a minimum of 5 seconds. 

3. No rockets shall launch when the sustained surface winds exceed 20 MPH (32 KPH).

4. Rockets shall not be launched in any way that could interfere with aircraft operations.

5. No rocket shall be intentionally launched through any altitude with greater than 50% cloud coverage.

6. No rocket shall be intentionally launched into or through a cloud.

7. Special LCO responsibilities exist for R/C RBG, Please refer to section 14-1 of the Safety code.

Range Safety Officer (RSO)

RSO shall inspect all rockets flown at Tripoli Launches. Only rockets approved for flight as a result of this inspection process

shall be allowed to fly.

RSO Shall initial the flight card after rocket has been approved for flight. The inspection shall minimally

consist of verification of the following

RSO Responsibilities

1. Ensure rocket build used adequate construction methods

2. Positive stability or acceptable glider trim. The flier shall document the location of the center of pressure and be able to

demonstrate the center of gravity. RSO shall verify CG and Center of Pressure meet build requirements.

3. Appropriate recovery system. Every rocket shall include a recovery system sufficient to allow the rocket to land at a safe velocity

4. Sufficient Thrust to Weight ratio. The thrust-to-weight ratio of a rocket typically should be at least 5:1. However, the RSO

may approve a thrust-to-weight as low as 3:1 ratio. Initial thrust-to-weight ratios lower than 3:1 may only be authorized

by an RSO if an active stability system is included

Range Operations Officer (ROO)

ROO shall help new flyers get setup on the launch pad.

ROO responsibilities

1.Ensure flyer follows launch system protocol. Ensure launch control hookup wire socket and box number

are listed on the flight card

2.Ensure flyer is setting up his or her rocket on the appropriate motor impulse row.

2.Ensure flight card is complete, including NAR or TRA Member number before turning into the LCO.
