TRAPHX Launch Day Procedures
This is BLM / RANCH land - all vehicles must remain on existing roads. Walk to retrieve rockets off the roadway. No “off roading” in either passenger or ATV type vehicles.
Due to the growth in the club and participation from Universities, TRAPHX launch procedures are being updated to distribute the launch procedures across the actual fliers instead of relying entirely on the BOD to run the launch. Ultimate goals of the procedure updates are for fliers to have responsibility for getting RSO signoff (preferably from their own team L2 members), setting their rocket up on the pad (with team assistance if needed) and LCO/launch their own rockets.
Registration Table
- A registration table will be set up near the ‘BOD encampment’ where membership will be verified (and dues can be paid if necessary)
- Everyone must be a TRAPHX member to fly High Power at our launches. Everyone should also be a member of Tripoli (preferred) or NAR. TRAPHX is a Tripoli Prefecture and is not set up to handle NAR certifications
- Wristbands will be used to indicate that a user is a registered / paid member and the color will indicate what ‘role’ they can assume (Prefect, RSO, LCO, Flier)
- Prefects and TAPs will have a Red wristband to identify them as being able to assist with cert flights.
- Any Level 2 member can act as RSO for rockets. Guidance will be provided to train them on what to look for. Colleges will be encouraged to have their L2 members be RSOs for the team. Those performing RSO duties will have a Yellow wristband.
- Any flier with a wrist band can act as their own LCO (launch their own rockets). We will provide Green wristbands for those that are happy to LCO rockets for other members of their team. We can provide training / review of how the Telemetrum launch system works
- Regular fliers will have a wristband that is not one of the above colors (may vary).
Range Safety Officer (RSO)
- We will not have assigned RSO, but will have multiple L2 fliers identified who can RSO your rocket
- We will work on cheat sheets and assist/mentor L2 fliers to feel comfortable with reviewing a rocket
“Pad Manager”
- No one without a wristband should be beyond the flight line.
- Any flier should be expected to set up their own rocket (with help from team members if needed).
- We will not have assigned Pad Managers but can provide guidance for new members for them to set up their own rockets and how the Telemetrum “TeleFireEight” launch box works.
Launch Control Officer (LCO)
- We will not have assigned LCO - but will have multiple fliers identified as being able to be LCO - and encourage anyone to be their own LCO (announce and launch their rocket). We will provide guidance and a cheat sheet on using the Telemetrum “TeleLCO” system.

CERT FLIGHT PROCEDURES
With regards to CERT flights, the following changes will be in effect.
- We do not need to watch you assemble your motor but we encourage fliers to first enlist their team members for assistance. You ultimately check a box on the form that says you assembled the motor - and that assistance is OK.
- Level 2 written exams will be proctored by a BOD member. These exams will be administered near the BOD ‘encampment’. We may later institute a time slot when all L2 exams should be taken.
- For certification post flight rocket examination, bring it to the BOD ‘encampment’ and someone will note success or failure. The form will ultimately be signed by the Prefect or a TAP who has final authority for determining success or failure.
